Jitteries before the climb in May

Standing tall at 4095m above sea level, Mount Kinabalu is one of the national's pride and it is being protected as one of the World Heritage Sites. I know that I have this thing for world heritage sites and yes, I did mention that once in my short life, I would want to climb this mountain. Well, the chance didn't really come until this year. Last year, my group of friends and I tried to plan one trip there but it doesn't seem to materialize due to the large crowd. Large crowd gives rise to opinions and so, that's how it ended.

Mr. KT then stated on another occasion that he would and must climb the mountain before his belly covers his toes (truly agree) and I jumped at that opportunity right-away! I was so excited and definitely very hyped up over it. Imagine, some friends and even your boyfriend have climbed that mountain before when they are younger...so why not you?

The trip finally materialized and in a click, I made my payments in one go -- to prevent myself from...I don't know...chicken out? No...no...no...I'm a little nervous right now but no no no...I don't think I'll back out from this challenge...of..intense walking against gravity...with some climbing in between...and a forest full of mosquitoes, leeches and what-nots...perhaps some less than hygienic resting places...all in exchange for one breath-taking sunrise up in the highest peak above a bed of clouds...

Okay...that's quite worth it for a city girl to explore the nature!

(Btw, I was wondering - why is a place (Taj Mahal...now Kinabalu Mountain) is always associated with some sad love story? I bet it's some made up to lure people up the mountain..ehem...anyways..I will conquer it as any other climbers have)

I will have a gf along..so I think we will make it!

This is the thing with Facebook...everyone knows what everybody else is doing nowadays and yes, you have got to admit that even if you don't catch up with your friends anymore, you still get the most updated and juicy news. It seems as though everyone is having such a fantastic life and reviewed their 2011 as one with many goals achieved. Right, glance at your checkin - somebody is sure spending 3/4 of their waking hours touching down or flying away at some airports or spending their lunch at some fancy spots OR they are shopping, not for clothes BUT properties.

Well, that is almost a 180 degree difference from mine. One thing never change was I am still very much broke and have only moved, probably, 100 metres from my starting point. Very well, this year is where all these disappointing sadness must come to an end especially when you are getting older, you need to climb more steps!

Spring cleaning

The Time of the year has arrived...the one particular time when I will do a thorough spring cleaning. Usually, I would throw at least a big bag of junks but due to my efficiencies, the number of bags has now been reduced to one.

This year is quite something,really...because I have decided to throw away all my...Memories.

Haha...melanchonic and as dramatic as (I'm trying to make) it sounds, I used to write diaries and now I have decided that I should part with them...my deepest secrets and fears, hopes and dreams, fantasies and realities...I have finally decided to put a tragic end to my written past. For one, I no longer write in my diary anymore and secondly, a written diary is the biggest mistake anyone could do. One glance into it would reveal the many perspectives of yourself...even the one that you are trying to discover.

It is an entertainment to the writer when he or she read back about his or her past...my memories have always reminded me of a naive and confused child who was trying to get hold of herself and to find a footing in the world. That was the reason I was keeping those diaries. Well, it amuses me to realize that my vocabulary has transformed so much over these years and to recap on the events that had happened are both a joy and a pain.

But it hit me that if these little secrets which are meant just for myself were somehow discovered by a second person...

Well, I know that I will never be able to forgive such an act.

Anyways, the pages of my diaries were set ablaze. I am no longer that confused child who was discovering the world and not knowing what I want. I have a direction now and have also found a trusted confidant. Therefore, I no longer need a diary...and no longer need to read on my history.

So, if you have a habit of writing in a diary and think that your thoughts are safe in the pages which are locked away in an undisclosed and hidden safe...THINK AGAIN. Nothing is ever Safe. It's best for you to burn the pages and keep your memories only as a memory. Carbon copies can be your biggest regrets.

I always thought that I'd prefer Maths more than Chemistry; well, not that I'm a logical person nor a 'number' person, in fact, I am more on the visual-based type of person..haha..now I hope I am making sense but ANYWAYS, while I was trying to complete my literature review by this month, I strayed from doing some serious work to reading forums on Chengdu. I was reading on the hundreds and thousand of review on mathematical models for microarray and believe me -- none of them make any sense to me. So much for preferring Maths than Chemistry..like WTF..what are those logarithms??

That was why I went on to read some forums instead and that was a really extremely bad idea. It has got me so hyped up!! The photo of Lehsan Buddha has already made me so excited and then the idea of experiencing a Face Changing Opera show? Wow...I must stop procrastinating...it is another good 10 months to come for my next trip.

Okay..back to earth now. I shall upload some of my favourite photo of my recent trip to Taipei and Yilan (dropping by at Makati).

Chengdu/Jiuzhaigou/Beijing?

My recent trip to Taipei and Yilan have been not too bad. This time round, I had the opportunity to travel luxuriously with my aunts and what more can I review on? Those are the luxury which comes with a price and for sure the reviews are to be superb! (Will upload the photo in the soonest possible)

So, after my relaxed trip..I am now back to the world; filled with solvents, chemicals and uncertainties. Although I am just started on my journey in getting my first masters...I already felt like quitting and getting back to the workforce. Working is so much more fun...and rewarding...yes it is. Anyways, I shall set my heart on the stone and be determined to complete the course in one year. Ehem.

That aside, I am already looking forward to my next adventurous travel (in modesty). Initially I was thinking of a trip from Beijing to Chengdu and then JiuZhaiGou and finally back to Malaysia from there. Now, on a second thought, that would be pretty hectic if not suicidal and a waste of energy to pack these routes into a mere 10 days. I was thinking of a more reasonable route from Malaysia to Chengdu and JiuZhaiGou and back.

This blog is pretty clear in its review. I'm hoping to read more of such detailed blogs...do recommend if there are any good ones!

Jiu Zhai Gou Valley (a thought and a plan for now)

"I enjoy photography as well," Bunny said enthusiastically. "And I do think certain places in Malaysia can be as beautiful as that of across the ocean!"

"... I don't think so! Can any places in Malaysia be compared to New Zealand? Can any part of Malaysia be as breathtaking as Jiu Zhai Gou? I think the only 'beautiful' place in Malaysia lies underwater...Sipadan, maybe," he said.

"Well, for one, Malaysia doesn't has meadows like those in New Zealand but then again, let's compare the sky. You can see as many stars shining brightly against the black dark sky in Pulau Redang. As you lie on your back listening to the waves, you can view a beautiful sky up above with stars scattered like diamonds! Not only that but you can even see meteors! It is as comparable as that of Her Huan Shan in Tai Chung!"

He hesitated and bounced stubbornly. "No, I still don't think anywhere in Malaysia is comparable to scenic places abroad. Look at Jiu Zhai Valley, nothing can compare with that!"

I paused and then asked curiously, "Where is this Jiu Zhai Valley?"

tik tak tuk. "There."

Whoa...I thought. "There I said it, we don't have such valleys or lake to be compared with. We can't compare things which we don't have." It's like comparing an apple with a durian.

That was how I came about this place. Jiu Zhai Valley is located in Chengdu, China and honestly, IT IS BEAUTIFUL...and beautiful alone is not enough to describe how wonderful the scene is. I am as mesmerized with it as I was with Angkor Wat. As if it was not enough, I came across a documentary on that place when I went back home on that same day. It was almost like a calling.

I told myself, no matter how difficult it is, I am saving up for a trip to Jiu Zhai Valley next year. Next year...

For this remaining months of 2011, I will work my arse off to isolate my (idiotic stupid time consuming freaking troublesome bloody) pure compound. I need to be FAST FAST FAST and FAST so that I can choose any month that I wish to spend my 8 or maybe 9 days in China...Chengdu...Beijing...OMG...I told you travel bug's bite is infectious...however, if the economy is any more worse, I'm afraid even if I'm bitten dead, I can't even step out of Malaysia :((

Hanoi and Hoi An and bypassing Danang

The journey from Kuala Lumpur to Hanoi took approximately 3 hours and 29 minutes and upon stepping out of Noi Bai Airport, we were blanketed by haze, literally (The air quality is pretty bad and to explore the area, you'd definitely need a mask), and elongated houses. The dimensions are pretty interesting…instead of having squares; they have cuboids for a house. These resembled those that I’ve seen when I was visiting Tai Chung, Taiwan. It made me wonder what the purpose behind this design was.

Our first stop was the Hanoi Guesthouse which was located near the Hoan Kiem Lake and to get there, in fact, anywhere else is easy and reasonable; provided that you have got the time because it costs you only USD3 for a mini bus trip to the Old Quarters. However, you'd have to wait for the bus to be filled up and also to wait for your stop. A 45 minutes ride to the city can easily take up to an hour on a bus ride. It's worth the time nonetheless as you'll be able to tour the city at the same time.I enjoyed the breakfast provided..phoooooooo

I'd give Hanoi Guesthouse a good rating for this trip. The room is clean and the people are friendly. My next destination was Hoi An and due to all the shopping we had in Hanoi, we decided to leave some stuff there in Hanoi to relieve us from the baggage. The housekeeper was being helpful in helping us with the bags (to keep it at the Guesthouse at no cost) and at the same, she took the time to suggest to us places of interest and also dining place for vegetarian. My favourite was the one hidden shop on 19 Phan Boi Chau, Hoi Kiem, Hanoi. The food is great despite the low price! It is quite far from the where we stay though, so we took a trishaw ride at VND100000 for 2 persons. It is true of what travellers said that you will definitely meet unscrupulous people on your first day in Hanoi. Our trishaw took us to the train station nearby the restaurant instead due to some miscommunications and despite charging us an additional agreed price of VND20000, he refused to give us our change of VND30000. After our dinner, we took a cab back and that mister took us to a wrong hotel and upon arrival, he demanded an extra charge due to the distance he drove us to. In this case, we ignored the driver - in conclusion, please keep small change with you to avoid cases like this.

The main places of interest in Hanoi included its citadel, museums, temples and Old Quarters but we only went to the latter. After my visit to Cambodia, I felt that any other historical remnants are second to them - more so that Vietnam is more of a war zone than an historical place.

I mistaken that for paper offerings. Those are actually biscuits for wedding usage... *>__<*

Hoan Kiem Lake

The city's map is messy but after a while, you'll get used to it and will not lose yourself in the maze as all shops bore the street address. I see this as an advantage as it is easier to navigate around. Anyways, the streets are well segmented in its categories. All metal or silver wares would occupy one street while clothes would occupy another. I enjoy exploring this area on foot although I was rather intimidated by the vehicles on the busy street. Bikers and drivers communicated and acknowledged each others' presence by honks and with their natural agility; I supposed no accidents (of hits and runs) ever occur on the street. Anyways, I still find it difficult to cross the road with so many vehicles zooming around at odd directions!!

Besides its notorious drivers and bikers like what most developing countries are famous for, I was told that Vietnam has got the best coffee and the taste is one that you'd go back for more. You bet that is true. Its coffee drip has an exquisite bitter taste that doesn't linger on your tongue but blends in smoothly with the fresh milk...hmmmhhhhm...and have I mentioned the rice noodles (I think it is called pho)? The soup base is fantastic! I had a chicken rice noodles by the road side and gosh...I love it to the max. You can just taste the freshness of the chicken in the soup and best of all - you don't get that thirsty taste on your taste buds which you would after a complete meal laden with salt/ajinomoto. In terms of food, I am truly satisfied. I especially enjoyed Tamarind cafe on Ma May street. It plays goodies of the 90s and the ambience is really relaxing. The price is a little expensive but it is well worth the money especially its paper rice roll...sighs...I am missing it already!

I love the food but in terms of architecture, I'm not impressed -not even with the lake. I guess it is more like a huge Chinatown than anything. This place has got everything from clothes and teddy bears (very noticeable) to kitchen wares and backpack. Guess what, I've got my 70l Deuters backpack here at $25. Who cares about its authenticity? This backpack's quality is good enough to last for several backpacking trips at least.

Equipped with this new bag, I happily take it to Hue with me. Usually the standard rate for airport cab would be USD16, however, we managed to get a USD14 ride at the Vietnam Airline office which is almost everywhere by the corners of the streets. It's the same ride but minus the guesthouse's commission and they will still pick you up at your guesthouse.

I had the best stay in Hue at Hue Nino Guesthouse (hueninohotel@yahoo.com). The ambience and decorations resemble those guesthouses in Taiwan...and of course; costed lower at only USD14 a night with a very hospitable housekeeper. We arrived rather late due to our night flight (you do not have to worry about transportation at Phu Bai airport as there will be a mini bus ready even at 9pm and they will drop you at your desired guesthouse for only USD3 –you’ll just need to show them the address), and we were pretty skeptical when the bus driver dropped us by the roadside and told us that the hotel is somewhere behind the alley. The signage is that of wood and it doesn't look inviting. I thought; gosh, can those reviews and photo be a scam to a run down and old guesthouse?!

We braved forward still and we were surprised to find this beautifully decorated and cozy place (brightly lit too) just by the end of the alley!! We were served with warm toasted bread with homemade marmalade and jam as well as hot strawberry lipton tea while they prepare our room. The room is small but it is not of our concern as it is very clean and comfortable. Despite the lack of space, they had a flat screen fitted against the wall (As compared to one of the hotels in Changkat, Bukit Bintang Malaysia; they had a bulky television) which served its purpose well – I watched Esther and was spooked by the character. Anyways, I had a really good rest and I'm ready for the Purple Forbidden City on the next day. I anticipated the Hue Citadel as it was said that it is the best of citadels. To save on both time and cost, do rent a motorbike for this visit as it'll take you approximately 30 minutes by foot from the guesthouse to the citadel. We went on foot because we thought it would be situated quite near (as according to blogs and google map). Upon arrival, we missed the main entrance and as the consequent, we have to walk around the citadel under the mean glaring April Sun; searching for the entrance. That was a waste of time since there is only an entrance (which is also the exit) and there wasn't much around that place besides shop houses. So, this is how I missed my next planned destination. We have to check out by 12pm and our cab driver will be picking us up at 2pm. Oh well.

Anyways, we found the entrance at last. We paid a fee of VND25000 and got into a huge compound of preserved ruins..which doesn’t impress me. The architecture was at most a pass. The palace was not adorned with intricate carvings nor does it exude royalty grandeur. After this visit, I was overwhelmed with a sudden urge to visit the Forbidden City in China.

Anyways, that would be arranged for next year. My next destination was Hoi An. We've chosen Hoang Trinh Guesthouse (a must to buy home their coconut biscuits! It’s pretty sweet but it goes very well with warm plain tea) for our 2 days stay (USD22 per night, inclusive of breakfast). During my trip planning, I was cracking my head on the best transportation that we should hitch to get us to Hoi An without much hassle and at an affordable cost. After weighing the options, we've decided to arrange our transportation with the guesthouse. At a cost of USD53, we managed to hire a comfortable 4-seater car that took us through Hai Van Pass. The journey took 3 hours and by the time we reached Danang, we missed the opening hours of Marble Mountain. It closes at 5pm (which we went on a later date) and honestly, I'd bypass it. It costs VND30000 for entrance and offers a pretty good exercise up the flights of stairs up to a temple and pagoda. A lift was in construction and it looks great but I guess minus the walking, this place would serve no purpose. The pagoda was locked but a peek inside would tell you that it has only 1 functional hall on the ground floor with no staircase connecting it to the next level. My best guess was that this pagoda was only constructed recently to provide a destination for tourists. Basically, all you get besides the temple and the pagoda are marble shops surrounding the mountain. It would be good if you planned to shop for marble decorations or statues. Else, really...skip this mountain.

Back to Hoi An. I have specially chosen the 14^th of the Lunar Calendar so that I could experience the cultural event which I read in an article found in Travel 360 (Airasia). I was told that on the 14^th of every month according to the Lunar Calendar, lights would go off in Hoi An and villagers would spread lighted lantern onto the river and the sight itself is truly priceless. I was really expecting that event and have carefully chosen the date. I was worried that I’d miss the date because I am not confident if the sites which I referred to were correct. Seriously, I planned my visits around these dates (2 nights in Hoi An). We arrived in the evening on the first night according to plan and we were right on time for the event (Yeap, the calendar is accurate:) ). Villagers were selling lanterns along the river and some tourists did buy and set the lanterns onto the river but unfortunately not enough to create a scene good for photography. I was slightly disappointed by the review I read. It seemed over-rated. No doubt, it is a very old city and restorations have taken place very well that most buildings were still preserved while the interior was renovated for business. And yes, it is still a place worthy of a visit:)

Most of the businesses there were steered towards textiles and tailoring. You should be prepared with cut-outs and your favourite dresses or coats. The tailors there will be able to make you the exact same outfit at a reasonable cost! If you are buying a cheong sam in Malaysia for RM1000, you’ll be able to buy the exact same clothing tailor-made to your size and preferred color (with design modification to suit your fashion sense) for only RM150. Awesome heaven for shopaholics who don’t like being caught in the same outfit as others. Besides clothing, villagers also sell handmade lanterns – table lamps and hanging ones too. Again, these would have cost you a bomb back in your country for whatever reasons the shopkeepers there would use to rip you off. But in Hoi An, I’ve got my lamps at USD12. It’s of simple design and I wouldn’t want to pay more than RM50 for a lotus table lamp. So, I supposed USD12 is a worth it price.

If you’d want to take memorable and lovely photographs of the old and ancient building, this is the place you should visit. We later found out that Hoi An would definitely be flooded every year beginning from October and that discovery made us go WOW because the houses look really well preserved. Imagine all the restoration efforts that were put in!

After two days of tranquility in a slow-paced village, we fly back to Hanoi for one more night before we take off back home. It happened to us that Hanoi Guesthouse said that they have a sick guest who requested an extended stay (which we doubt) and so, the receptionist suggested that she would arrange us to stay in a nearby guesthouse at a price of USD20 (this seems like a common practice according to reviews from tripadvisor -- so i'd suggest that you look for an alternative as a backup if you do need to stay for an extra night and they said that they do not have a room for you). The room is good enough for a king size bed, a cabinet and just enough floor area for you bags. Oh well, thank god, the bathroom is clean although the bedsheet is a pass – and we only stay there for a night.

Siem Reap

Siem Reap, the destination which I truly wanted to visit since a long time back (and that was not because of Tomb Raider) and it did not disappoint me. I was extremely impressed with Bayon Temple more than any other temples.

How do these ancient people build all the magnificent structures? A lot of restoration has been taking place but yet you can still see and feel the aura of the entire location. I'm totally at lost for words, so I'll let the photo be your storyteller of the day (I have quite a number of photo taken but these close-ups are the ones I always stop and mesmerize...the details of the structure...wow...):

This one below was taken with my Canon's point and shoot. I'd say not too bad seriously...though it can be better with close-up shots. Anyways, I'm now planning to get a Leica. I don't know much about camera but I love the Leica's outlook and I'm sure I'll be impressed with its photo quality once I have my hands on one.

This photo below is one of my faves too! I love the contrast of their dress. The below is the street nearby our guesthouse. Bhoy, I had the weed pizza and luckily the effects only started to kick in just when we are done.

Now this is THE pizza. I was searching high and low on the streets but didn't manage to find. Alright, before you judge, I must first put this forward: you only get to live life once, and a little chemical in your brain wouldn't kill you. I've heard people trying it and all but I have not. Moreover, this little plant is really harmless if you don't overdose yourself. So, I thought, okay, fine if I don't get to try...and cool if I do...then there they are; prepared in the guesthouse. It actually taste very good. Then again, I think the preparation method is questionable because I was down with diarrhea for a whole week. Thank god I was already on my way back home. Well, Cambodia is truly a place which gave me tales to tell...that I was wrong, weed with bacteria can easily kill you. :)pThe guesthouse (recommended by a motor driver from the airport) which we stay was really good and worth for the price. I don't remember now but it should be about 8-10USD. It's clean, cooling and comfortable. The Tropical Breeze guesthouse is located near the Old Market and across the river.

A chatty girl was sharing a story with a quiet boy. She said," Once there was this old grandpa who enjoys durian a lot and he can totally eat and eat and eat all the durian in the world. On one fine day, he went for a durian feast for 3 hours and when he was enjoying himself, he had forgotten about his lonely wife who is in the other far corner of the globe."

"The poor wife's wagon had broken down and she was stranded. She tried to contact her husband but could not at all reach him despite numerous calls".

The quiet boy interrupted and asked," The wagon was down..so...why should the wife called the husband? He can't help at all. She should have contacted other people who is able to help."

Swt...

That sentence is truthful in a way, but what good is a husband if he can't at least provide comfort to the wife by just offering his mere presence; maybe not physically but at least by listening and concerning on the ground that she was stranded? It is possible that the wife would like her husband to know what was happening and that's the reason of her making that call.

Whatever it is, the girl wrapped up her story thinking aloud to herself,"whatever..."

That is the thing with Leos. Brave and somewhat careless...never failed to take a chance at what they think is right. Idiocy, maybe. I get what I wanted but somehow voices around me give me the benefit of doubts. Instead of assurance, they confused me. Confused and I'd rather keep the confusions to myself...because those voices could never understand.

Manila

After 2 years, I'm back again to Manila on a work trip. This time round, I did not have much of a luxury to spend my time at Boracay or to explore other parts of Luzon island.

I spent most of my hours; first in Alabang, then Tanay and finally of course, Makati. Of all months of the year, by unforeseen arrangements, I'd have to travel to Philippines; just when the most unfortunate have happened to Japan. Somehow, many people have this guts feeling that after this incident, many more hibernating volcanoes will once again go active. Perhaps even the Mayan cannot predict what impact will this bring if for real that such an incident will occur.

Anyways, here I am, sound and kicking and writing this piece on my journey back to Kuala Lumpur because I can't freaking take a nap...

I had finished reading my Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll and i don't feel like finishing my book of China and the West. It's pretty heavy at the moment when my mind is unease about tomorrow...the lists of things that I have to think about.

That aside, I'd want to write...about my thoughts on this trip and how lucky I am to be born a Malaysian even if I hate the fact that we are - classified as the non 'Sons of the land' entity. Yes and to be precise, I shall use the word loathe because I was issued a summon of a darn RM 100 for violating the traffic law of parking by the yellow line. Damned, car owners don't get summoned on a Friday for whatsoever reasons especially when they park near a certain religious building!

ANYWAYS, I am still a lucky citizen despite all the unjust treatments (at least, I'm given the chance to vote and I'm definitely voting against the construction of a nuclear plant in East Peninsula).

So, Manila...it feels to me that every corner has got:
1. Starbucks (practically everywhere with a frequency way much higher than that in kl),
2. Mini
3. SM (they intended to litter every corner of Manila by living to their motto of 'SM is 30mins of drive from one another'
4. Mercury drug store
5. Jollibee
6. very affordable and good massage spa...and I absolutely love their 24hrs home-massage service:)

and, in an obvious sense, I felt that there are only a handful of middle class families around. I travelled once again around Manila and I took note of the long expressways, fantastic drivers as well as the number of low cost buildings (is squatter area a better term?) scattered everywhere en route towards the city and also very beautiful and prestigious looking neighbourhoods.

Like any other developing third world countries, the drivers in this part of the island are superb. A driver can be a good distance away from you but within a turn of your head, that car can be instantaneously 5 inches away from your car! Therefore I came to a conclusion that most drivers with a Philippines driving license are i) very agile, ii) can take on any hostile road conditions. Perhaps, if Earth survives 2012, United Nations should organize a friendly driving competition specifically for drivers from Phnom Penh, Hanoi, Manila and Paris (maybe)..

Haha...yea...so that's the world adjacent to Makati. Once you enter Makati, the constructions change dramatically. Low cost houses give way to high rise service apartments and posh looking restaurants which only the upper class citizens or foreigners can afford. You are there...there are only a handful of middle class citizens and corruption is no doubt rampant but that's life. I'm quite amazed that at this rate, it's research and development sector is still able to keep up.

I guess I'll return on another day for work...and till then, I'll end my journal here. I'm home sweet home.

If I do return, I hope I'll be able to visit intramunos and someday when the ocean is less restless- Pahlawan.

Crap...I just realized that unlike my previous beloved k770i, this phone doesn't have a blogspot integrated app. Well...it has but I don't quite like it. I thought that I'd upload a pic but I can't find the upload a photo button here...

Hmm..and I always thought a mobile browser would work the same as a computer browser...

Oh well...

Anyways, I've always enjoy taking photo and I find the world through the camera lens to be very fascinating. This world brings such joy in the form of memories. Memories which you would want to keep and yet reluctant to reminisce and dwell into them...memories which made you smile all the time and you wish that you could travel back into them again...and again...memories which was so provoking that your tears will flow every time you stumble onto them...

I used to have this old Canon last time and my mum would let me waste the film every time and best of it - she'd process the film regardless of what nonsense I captured. That, was supportive.

I truly have the most shallow knowledge on camera and photography but it is just a process that I took passion in - as how I am with musical instruments and art. I used to yearn for a DSLR but come to think again, it will be quite a waste in the hands if an amateur like myself. I could easily use that money for travel and still capture the world with my Canon of 7.1mp. moreover, gecko has one. He can do the heavy job of bringing that bulky thing around and I still get to play with it anytime;) *evil*

Then, I decided to get a lumos camera...i love the idea of having random photographs generated at every click! I thought I'd buy a cute ancient looking one but after a around of checking around...I thought that I should not part with my mere few hundred ringgits...haha..frugal, yes.

So I was really delighted when I came across this camera app which enables me to take different type of photo including Polaroid, fish-eye and some nice washed out effects type of photo! it went lagged and slow for a bit but hey, should I complain?!

hehe...

Guess only the quirky minds would understand this. Lol...I shall post some of my next blog! okay, they may not be of the qualities which you may see in 'i am number 4's Stranger in Paradise' but you see what is revolving around my life...through the lens...

Reluctance

Everyone!

I've got to officially announce that I'm in a state of denial.

I am facing a...
Reluctance in growing up. Despite the fact that my growth is giving me away to age, I am in denial and reluctant to mature with it...

I shudder at the thought of marriage...I shuddered at the thought of forming a new family...I shudder even worst at the thought of potential life with in laws.

These thoughts are really quite ridiculous and a little too early but as of these few years, friends around me are either married with kids, engaged or are planning to get married 2 years from now...I know I have ranted about this in my previous blog(s) but just can't help it! This is the thought which are meant to be shared with all ladies who are soon to reach the second half of her 20s and yet to have a satisfying career or even own her dream private space (read: a hideaway condo unit or maybe a comfortable landed unit surrounded by greens)...it is really normal if you are still feeling young and have this reluctance to mature!

The phobia of the whole idea of marriage which may possibly lead to a divorce! Gecko has got a point when I told him about this 87 years old billionaire who had remarried 4 times with a different younger wife in each marriage. He said, what is the point of being so lovey dovey everytime when after which it leads to the same ending altogether.

True but maybe partially. I always thought each relationship deserves an equal chance every time when one start anew:)

DHD!!

I have finally got my DHD! It's overall a very good phone despite the occasional lags...and also, it has an obvious con: camera. My SE k770i still wins with its Cybershot;)) I love the features of my new toy but I still feel rather reluctant to let go of my old phone. Some memories are still too dear to be buried but I supposed everyone has got to move on. It definitely takes time...Anyways...It's the way to go to get this phone as I spend most of my conscious hours at work. With the availabilty of an internet connection at work as well as the lack of it at home, it only makes economical sense to use a smartphone. Though my area is poorly covered by digi, I still signed up for its 2 years package - all in the name of frugality. Well, not everyone OS born with a silver spoon!

Then again I really see it as a good buy especially when it gives me a data plan discount;)

Ahh...that aside, it suddenly came to me that I realized we are already living into the 3rd month of 2011...despite the craziness that has yet to evaporate from my workplace (in fact, it is gaining momentum recently), I am still surviving. I'm very much alive and kicking but has already been very discouraged to fight on for a Msc by research. Situations are not looking positive and moreover, at this point, other plans came into my mind. Time is really wicked, it deceives you into having hopes and later on, It confuses you with choices. Then again, it's perfectly fine. At the very least, I've given it a shot and really, that is what matters.

Battambang II - What's There?

It has been months after my first post on Battambang and I have

almost forgot that I have left it incomplete. Right, I should pick where I left it and anyways; it should have be completed before I move on to blog about my next destination. So, as a friend asked; what is there in Battambang?

I don't know. I made it part of my trip because it was en route to Siem Reap. I guess the highlight of this place was the malnutrition white cows and the muddy river.

Okay, bad joke.
Anyways, honestly, I went because it was en route.
Though, they have a so-called famous plaything there: Bamboo train.

It is a bamboo platform propelled by an engine and it costs 10 dollar per ride. Long time back, that was The transportation for the locals to carry their goods to and fro the market. Now, it was a side-income for them. The speed is good for a joyride and something to try for tourists. This toy brings you along the way, passes fields and stops at a place with shops where you can buy drinks and food. Then, they will take you back to the station from there. It's cute in a way when they utilize the track to the maximum, operating several trips at the same time. Thus, when there's an on coming cart, they will stop either one of the carts and take them off the track for the next one to move on.

Those are not really what I fancy BUT the coffee! Friends once told me that Vietnam has got the best coffee in Southeast Asia or probably, to his tastebuds, the best in the world. I will judge that for myself when I visit Hanoi in April this year; so for this moment, I could say I love that coffee that I tried at the local coffee shop. Milk and coffee...and the aroma of it is truly one of its kind!

This is not too bad itself too. We had it at Gecko Cafe, the place where we escape from the heat. It's very near Chhya GH. We bought some fresh cakes from the opposite bakery and retreat to this cafe. It has got cute gecko paintings too :)

There are many shops around but we chose White Rose due to the much recommendations online. It's not really that great but it's good. I mean, you can't go wrong with bread and eggs for breakfast. LOL...we had curry for dinner (if I remember correctly) and it was spicy!

And yea, I find the pic of these locals amusing. Uhm..The amusing part...was the expression...hehee...

The places to visit in this little town are Wat Banam and the Phnom Sampeou. Over here in Cambodia, I can't help but to be amazed by all their stone sculptures.
To get around is pretty easy because we are able to arrange trips at the Guesthouse itself and the market is only a walk away. The night market is not anything similar to that in Malaysia as I discovered that they sell mostly grilled meat like...chicken...and maybe others too but I'm not sure. I didn't take any fancy in them. I guess they look slightly too burnt to me:)p

Walking around during the daytime is sure fun if you are one who enjoy capturing 'moments' and buildings. Seriously those buildings in both Phnom Penh and Battambang mimics those old quarters in Hong Kong and of course, the villages in Malaysia (same colonial artisans I supposed...don't ask me which, my history is bad. LOL). They have that similar air-ventilation outlets; I have no idea what term are those air vents being called though.

We ventured during the night time and come to think of it, it's pretty adventurous of us. We used Lonely Planet as our guide and we tried to look for some outlets for late dinner -- successfully failed the mission. The street is sure there but the restaurant was not. Some of the streets was rather dark as there was no street lamps. An experience nonetheless!

By the way, that's my favourite flower, Jasmine. It has this fresh floral fragrant that made you think of the green grass after the rain! The Cambodians made an art out of it and sell them at USD1. Nice :)) Just love it!

Next: Siem Reap (that's the cream of the crop...the highlight of the trip...after that disastrous boat trip!!)

Everyone agrees (and it's undeniable) that Internet is the Greatest creation of the century and the cream of the crop is its search engines (I particularly prefer Google than anything else -- especially Bing).

I have been searching the Net for hours and finally I have come to the right keyword!!!!! Alright, basically this post is precipitated from the happiness of a silly girl who have scoured the Net for hours over something simple and yet complicated at the same time. I was trying to make up the head and tail for my proposal and am seriously clueless over it. I was trying to come up with something to replace any in vivo work because at the moment, I suddenly lost the interest in doing any mouse work at all. In fact, while I'm at it, I'm actually pondering over the use of zebrafish in replacement of mouse for in vivo work.

Of course, if it is avoidable, I will.

So yeap...I supposed I'm halfway there and I should be able to come up with a draft this month after I have found the correct keyword: in vitro digestive model (External Exposure ->Mouth, Eosophagus, Stomach, Small intestine -> Small intestine, Portal vein ->Liver -> Systemic circulation)

This is so silly that I'm overjoyed at this 'achievement' and I felt so much to shout it out. Then again, FB, which of all the people I'm connected to, wouldn't be able to understand this joy nor I don't think anyone else except for those who are in this situation will be able to understand this feeling.

The situation of longing to discover solution and solve the question -- in a time-point.

I always believe that if one can survive the current threat, he or she can definitely take the next that comes along. Well, what doesn't kill you will eventually make you stronger and yes, I am not killed this year, so that's definitely a great starter!

I mean, look, I survived that minor road accident, though on the downside, my SLK suffered a blinded eye. I don't know how you term that component...that squarish yellow light indicator went missing this morning) as a consequence of the accident which knocked it off its place -- with only the wire intact. Oh boy, my SLK has been through all the thick and thins and seriously, even if I hate to admit this, redrose is right. My SLK is under-maintained ever since. I'll try my very best though to keep it in a good condition -- I dare not say tip-top as we can all witness now, he is more broken than good. But hey! He is still functional and the very best of it; reliable. He gets me around and protected me from the shine and rain.

Good enough for me. He's my roof and he's my legs and the advantage: he is not a burden!

Next;

My modem and laptop battery died on me. I s-u-r-v-i-v-e it. Yes, how can one lives without the great of wise Internet in this age! I mean, okay, this is a luxury as compared to those who live off Internet, still once you have get a taste of technology, you will not let it go!

It's alright anyways, I will soon get my HTC DHD to replace that darn modem (it just have to give up on me at the time when I needed connection the MOST). Then again, it's really sad that Digi (offering an attractive package) does not have enough stocks to keep the consumers happy. Look, I got to know that only a pathetic one or two units are made available at the Digi stores. C'mon! They came up with a wonderful rebate promo and yet limit the number of units to be sold -- I just felt cheated! Extremely cheated. I have been enquiring and waiting for so long and still, the answers given was "I'm sorry but we do not know when the next batch of stocks will be available". Puh-lessh...

So, okay, those are the losses in monetary term. To rub salt to my wounds, there's another burden coming along too. What a year to end and what a good start to 2011. My piggy bank will begin with 0 and hopefully the digit will grow next year. T_____T

On the bright side, the gains will be that I am eventually, painstakingly but seemingly moving towards my goals. In the past, I had the luxuries of being in institutions which I have the rights to sound, therefore I bet I will hardly stand the ways things will be done in the future should I be placed in those which I am forced to accept and obey whatever stupid rules that they have. Still, I am moving towards one of my goals, so I shouldn't complain really and just increase my level of patience. I have to keep reminding myself that once I have got what I think I need, I will break out and venture onto better grounds.

It's all talk for now, really because I am actually in doubts if I can achieve that. Then again, in life, it's either you die a pauper, die trying or die a legend.

Another gain will of course be the new chapter of life! It wasn't all that bad in my last chapter but somehow, there is this new level of freedom now that I'm enjoying every minute of it. Again, if one is to argue, I must say I have got my points.

By the way readers, Merry Christmas! Tee-heee...I always enjoy the sound and feel of Christmas and without fail, my usual miniature tree is out of its storage place again this year. It has got a new friend from Japan this year round -- it's the weeping Bunny! XD

omg...I was clearing some files and junks and I thought it was okay to remove the visio 2007 trial (since I'm using a 2003) which I did. To my horror, my ignorance has led me into losing my microsoft office.

Thank god that I had figured that I have that visio.exe file in the folder. It solved part of the problem -- my words is re-installed; however, not my excel. The pop up says 'sku011.cab missing' but internet is the Great Wise One. I solve it with the help of these geniuses in this forum

I am one who among many others, hope to see more good in humans. I who, among others, hope that good still does exists. I, who thought that if you have chosen the path of becoming either a doctor/nurse or a medical adviser/personnel, you have to have what it takes to become one.

I look upon doctors as a very noble profession because you need to have a lot of courage and determination to actually be a good doctor. They are not saints but they are someone who one can rely on when there is a medical crisis.

These two Malay Female Doctors of Pusat Perubatan Wad 2 from Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya (Universiti Malaya Medical Centre) (about 10 am; sitting at the front desk gossiping loudly over god knows what) are a total shame to their own race and humanity. Due to personal reasons, I have to hold my tongue and not scold the hell out of them, I have to resort to venting my anger in another way. I should have taken down their names and spread it out loud on the cyberspace but since I did not, I guess the best way somehow was to mention where I met them.

They are the most insensitive lot and so happened that today; an acquaintance of mine was in a dire need of immediate medical attention and thus, we have informed them of our arrival. Therefore we'd have expected immediate treatment upon arrival but alas! We have to wait for half an hour or so and to be told by these ladies that a delay of a couple of minutes will not change the fact that you are injured! We informed them beforehand that this is serious and we needed immediate treatment! Else why would we called beforehand? Right, you are a government hospital and of course, there are much worst cases where human lives are at stake but hello?! The very least that you can do is to offer some minimal kindness!

You are a doctor and yet you acted like a noob who is in the hospital just because you happened to stumbled across that profession and eventually you've got to much youth and money to spend on education.

You read me right. Imagine if our roles switched and I tell that back to their face -- since that they are so immunized by such cases; I'd love to see what expression will they show.

Can I? I, of all people, should have much patience in me. I can't believe this and I do not understand why, of all people, M is the one person who I have no patience in. This is energy draining...worst than running a 50km marathon or taking a life and death exam paper.

I'm just feeling weak in the knees and exhausted to the joints. This feeling of lightness in your hands and the pent up frustrations; I'm just amazed. Just a simple few sentences are able to get me into this state.

But all is good. At least, I did well a moment ago to stay in control and tried to explain things out -- not to my best attempt but the message got across.

...we were discussing on our trip to Taiwan in Old Town and out of fun, we made a 'fine dining' bet. 31st Oct 2010 was the due date for that bet...and yeshh..I remember! LOL...it was just out of fun that my friend was planning on a goal in which only he knows. He wrote it on a paper and the 3 of us are supposed to see if that goal in that paper will materialize a year later.

Sighs...it is a year already. As I age, Time just catches up and I miss Youth. I miss being 17 again...when it was just after SPM and the bunch of us are all enjoying the holiday as well as pondering over the 'what's-next' question.

Years after, this is the 'what's-next' already. Some have been working for 2 years, some atill job-hopped (or hope to hop) while some are married (happy and yet scary event!).

Soon, it will be yet another Christmas and New Year...oh well, all is good. I've got an early Xmas present on the 31st October :)

Child's Eye...haix

To watch a horror (spiritual-theme) movie is like an expansion to the third dimension into something unknown yet. It is something which can possibly be explained by science or to some extent, maybe not entirely. Perhaps, it is a completely different realm which can only be experienced when you are in it.
eg: When you are dead and your soul leaves your body and I supposed that's when you can be in that third dimension. LOL...

Yea, many thought it's a waste of good money to buy a ticket to a horror show just to get yourself spooked. I don't know but I am watching all interesting movies regardless of genre and it really is entertaining to watch creativity being molded into graphical reality. However, I must say that the Child's Eye by Pang's brothers is nothing to be compared to their very first break-through of The Eye. I love The Eye (as much as I love The Shutter) for its originality and storyline.

The plots of their movies go down hill after The Eye. I watched most of their creations and felt truly disappointed with all except The Eye and Re-cycle.

The Eye 2 and The Eye 10 are bad, seriously. I watched though because I was very impressed with The Eye and I thought they are the Master in making original eastern-infused horror movie. I guess they are having a hiatus?

The Eye was really good after years of watching lousy horror movie with no storyline while Re-cycle carries a really good message in it; a rather sad one though. Anyways, everything has got a expiry date and will then eventually be forgotten and re-cycled once the due date is passed. I am still waiting to be proven wrong.
And of course, there's another moral to the movie; something regarding abortion. Oh well, it's 4 years back and so I don't quite remember that part-- for all I remember, it's sad.

So, back to the Child's Eye, I was expecting something more but however, with that said, I was still frightened by the sudden sound of the soundtrack as well as that camera-plunge-movements. It has got a weak script but at several camera angles, it does the trick in frightening you.

In this, I see a different morale from Gecko.
Gecko: To kill smaller animals is inhumane.
Bunny: (diverts) To kill during pregnancy is a definite no-no and there are so much that a pregnant woman should avoid.

(It is inhumane and unethical to use smaller animals in the name of greater good in science but then again, sometimes, it is inevitable. Cell culture may present a good model for experimental purposes but then again, there are various factors to it that may lead to inaccuracies. As to compensate such inaccuracies, an animal model is used as a confirmation to the uncertainties found in experiments using cell culture.
Both models has to go in parallel for better understanding of a concept yet to be ascertained as a fact.
Okay, whatever it is...sometimes, it just has to be done on the basis of logical reasons.)

Besides, as the same goes for most horror movies, the main morale is that one should not harbor grudge; because it is like an evil seed. Grudge towards a certain event or person will eventually grow into a tree of hatred that grips tightly to one's soul to an extent that leads oneself towards self-destruction as well as creating inconvenience to others.

As to conclude, I would say that The Child's Eye is one movie to go for if you wanted a good scare from the soundtrack. The storyline is weak and somehow, in the end; logics are erased from the movie (because you will find that two humans got transported between two places and you'll have no idea how that happened as no clues were offered beforehand. One can assumed that they may be possessed to walk back to the hotel). The ending isn't conclusive but I made an assumption that an accident happened and possibly caused by unrest spirits from the haunted hotel.

By the way, Do Not go for the 3D version. It makes no difference, really.

I hate it when people is trying to complicate simple matters. I do not know if it is age but I came to realize that my patience towards groups/people who try to make simple things difficult is getting limited.

Yesterday, today and Now..another chapter of Randomness

Yesterday's traffic policemen are idiots. There was an ambulance trying to rush past the row of cars and yea; why was there a row of cars jamming the road? Oh, that was because the policemen didn't realize that there was an ambulance and thus were busy easing the traffic of the opposite side of the road.

Today's traffic was smooth despite the downpour. It was a little past 4.30am and the road was peaceful with only a few cars on the road. I always enjoy the early hours. Everything is much more calm and the silence is something gold can't buy.

Now, with a good hot cup of Milo-O in hand; after a dinner of bread and mango (as dessert) as well as the mind temporarily switched off from work -- I stared at the mango and start to reminisce. Sighs. There were good times and also bad times and the sweetest was that RR and I breezed through them -- though sometimes it wasn't exactly a breeze. Sometimes it was a hurricane. Oh well, I supposed the last hurricane was really huge but it happened for a reason and for whatever reason it was, it happened. Initially, it was a harmless swirl of air; until it later on gained momentum and turned into a hurricane.

Life is picking up now (so I hope, fingers crossed) and it is moving towards a good direction; though it might be too early to tell but for now, everything is going good. It is going to be Friday soon and for the second time in this year, I am anticipating Friday. The amphibian is back!

I was expecting to watch Wall Street Money Never Sleeps. Not an economist myself and barely know more than the average, I expected Wall Street to be an exciting movie -- giving the audience the kind of thrill and suspense that one finds like if they are right there in the brokerage firm on a busy transaction day. Therefore, I was rather disappointed with the movie. I was looking forward towards an insightful movie only to find some striking real life similarities in Jacob Moore.

Yes...a striking projection.

Oh well, as always, if I live through this; I can take the next that comes along. Moreover, Airasia is flying to Japan! So now, that makes my next stop to be in the sequence of Vietnam -> Korea-> London-> China -> India -> Japan -> Europe -> Australia/New Zealand....and hopefully with Taiwan and Hong Kong in between ~ on and off. I kinda miss that two places for whatever reason there is. They are just islands but there are so much to explore!

I'm also thinking...one of these days, I will find the right group and conquer Mount Kinabalu...but of course, I will need to get my stamina to a working level. Hmmph....so many places to travel and yet so little time and money.

But; I believe, I shall never give up!

If the above video clip is allowed online, then I do not see why is the reason that Namewee's (below) video clip should be banned. Moreover, he speaks much more truth than the person in the above clip -- who so deemed as beriman. How can a person be iman when all he does was trashing the religion of another race? They do this to the Chinese, and they do the same to the Indians. I'm glad that we did not lower our level to that of his. At the very least, most Chinese and Indians, are not bothered to waste their energy in making public speeches to criticize on others' religions -- in which if we are 'fighting' an eye for an eye, we have the very rights to do more than just making public speeches on just religion.

Battambang I - Cambodia

The journey from Phnom Penh to Battambang was taken using the usual route: by bus. It took us 6 hours on Phnom Penh Sorya to reach Battambang which was situated north (literally) in the map. We bought the ticket upon reaching Phnom Penh and arranged out pick up from the hostel to the bus station with the hostel on that day itself.

I slipped in and out of sleep and caught glimpses of the towns which we passed by every time I opened my eyes. The highway was a smooth journey and there wasn't much manholes or anything, I guess I just remember a time when the driver was trying to avoid...something. I don't quite remember much but I thought it was a vehicle rather than a cow.

The small towns which we passed by resembles those which we once learned in geography. I don't know if it was termed 'Petempatan berjajar'? It's something where you find houses by the roadside. I didn't get to see beyond them but it gave me the impression that these houses are located near the road in a linear formation/setting.

It was said that Battambang is the second largest city after Phnom Penh but it doesn't seem to me like a large city at all. It exudes an aura of tranquility and the people seems more relaxed at this part of Cambodia. I supposed the area is too vast and unfocused to be called a city. I had this impression that Battambang resembles Seremban of the '90s, way before they build Jusco and even Terminal 1. It is just Seremban and the only big mall during that era was The Store. They do not even have that many fast food chain stores as of now. LOL..those were the days in Seremban.

There isn't many guesthouses around the area where we wanted to stay for the night and most people highly recommended Chhya Hostel. It was a good one, basic and (again) CLEAN.

Not as good as Me Mate (it has a classic bathroom and faulty air-conditioner) but given the circumstances, I think this is the best in Battambang -- most importantly, it is clean (the most important criteria for me)

We didn't make prior reservation because there was no link to that guesthouse at all and we thought, when the worst comes (no rooms available), we will just opt for Royal Hotel (the next most recommended). We did not know where the guesthouse is located but we got adventurous and thought, it shouldn't be too difficult to located based on the map we have (it was the one provided by Lonely Planet). Communication was proven to be a bit difficult when it comes to places which is not too popular among tourists who frequented there. The tuk tuk drivers may not be able to make out what you were trying to say. So, you will have to speak slowly, word by word to them.

Anyways, it turned out that the moment our bus reached Battambang's bus station, we saw a tuk tuk driver holding a cardboard that says 'Chhya Hostel'! Actually, there was a LOT of drivers at the station, everyone hoping to make a living by recommending a guesthouse for the visiting tourists (not many on the bus at that moment) and so happened, this driver appeared right next to our window:)

See, it isn't difficult; moreover, he speaks good English. We then hired him for both the evening and the next day. He charged at $16 for the mileage to Wat Banan, Phnom Sampeou Killing Caves, Old and New Wat Ek Phnom as well as the Bamboo Train area. We really enjoyed the trip with him as he did a little explaining here and there as best he could. I do not know how you could contact him but if you see someone like him, you know you can hire him for your trip there :)

Upon arrival at the hotel, we reserved our seats on the boat for the next day to Siem Reap. It was supposed to be recommended especially if you want to catch a view of the Floating Market through the river route. Yes, as long as you don't go there during the dry season -- I went there in May...so I guess that is self-explained. I understand from blogs and forum that dry season is a tough one if you want to go to Siem Reap by boat but I did not know it was THIS TOUGH. Go for the boat ONLY if it's a wet season:
1. The water level was knee length and that's the best the lake can give us.
2. Due to the low water level, the propeller got stuck in the mud and it took all the strong and kind hands on the boat to help -- namely two cute homosexual partners and some very sporting foreigners in which there was a girl of Swedish origin who sings beautifully!

Now, from the photo, you can imagine how low the water level is.
It was quite a wait because we sat from morning 11am until 8pm and only then, we managed to get moving and bit by bit, we moved towards shore. That was the longest wait ever. A British national (or so he sounds) was being very impatient and tried calling for help but I can assure you that there is no use calling anybody. The tourist police officers are of total no use and it's not like they can understand your language.

Everyone started to get worried when it gets dark...with exception to the homosexual couple, gecko and I. For some unknown odd reasons, I wasn't really worried about our safety. In fact, if there are anything to be worried about, it would be my bladder. I tried not to drink water -- till as far as I can hold it because being the person who is so particular about washroom hygiene (even in a remote location such as this), I do not want to do anything in the makeshift washroom in the dark. The washroom has got a paint bucket replacing the toilet bowl and the human waste was recycled by pouring them into the water -- just like the primitive days.

The homosexual couples don't seem to mind I supposed, since they used the river water to wash their apples. They have bought quite a few variety of fruits including pineapples and banana. So, it was like a mini picnic on board when things get boring; they offer fruits as well as cashew nuts. Seriously, I love them -- they are such a lovely couple!

Time and again, I go around poking my nose at other's blog. Blogs which worth my time and which I thought was insightful. I found this in a newly acquainted friend of mine. I developed an instantaneous liking to her when I first got to know her (as compared to a few other people whom I thought was nice...but...somehow, oh well...let's just say people are unique) ; I enjoy the truthfulness in her. It is something which one feels when one meets one. That's the quality in a person which shines out and say 'Hey, I ain't faking it and I'm being friendly without an agenda.'

It turns out to me that I was right about this quality in this person. Anyways, the point of today is, I wish to share a message with her: She is not alone.
She was brave to put her sadness in words and I especially like the way she puts it, 'searching for a fantasy to lose yourself in'.

I guess everyone does and I guess that is something I practice nowadays. To an extent, I am luckier than a lot of people. Not only I have options...I make my choices and I run away to hide in my fantasy world whenever there's a chance.

(I made it again! Got the promotional ticket for next year! Note: Airasia! Regardless of how ridiculous I thought it was for not being able to get into your website, I am grateful that Dato Tony gave birth to you. Seriously, if it is ain't for Airasia, I would not be able to travel no matter how badly I wanted to. I will die like another boring person in Malaysia. I guess I would very likely die from suffocation.
Anyways, I've got that RM50 per way ticket to Hanoi! Again, I would love to tell that one person who was disbelieved when I once told him that I would travel SEA before I move on to Europe and other places. I so much wanted to say this out loud in the most sarcastic way that I could, 'You are like a frog (katak di bawah tempurung) to some extent, oh yes, you have been to places because of your job and you thought you are all that? Oh man, I pity you a lot because you only have one passion and me? I've got a life.'
Well, I am not that bitter and I don't hold a grudge against him. It's just that I'm so happy that all my transitional periods were over. Yes, it's the relief that you feel when you were floating without a bouy and suddenly you found a solid ground. A ground which you can for once, see something out of it as compared to the vast ocean with no borders.

So..people, I will once again lose myself in a place where no one knows me and when there will be no worries to touch me. Yes...no letters...no bills...no responsibilities...no unexpected results...no bipolar human...no uncertainties, no pretense, just me, my camera, my good o' pair of shoes, my pack and an amphibia for a week. For a week! Sighs...what heaven is that?

Honestly, that's a world I lose myself in. So, girl, you are so not alone. Debts are a figure which we all very much hate and I feel you in the way when you would ponder and asked yourself questions which you have got no answers to. In my case, I would think of all those whys and at times I even get envious when I see the contented and happy faces around me. Regardless on how I try not to be and how I always tell people that I don't believe in those faces, I actually believe to an extent. Well, it is just not right to believe in them entirely and since I am not one of them, I chose not to believe. Haha...that is very unhealthy. It is like snatching hopes from a child. But I guess it's part of growing up. When you do, people entrusted you with all sorts of responsibilities whether you agree to it or not.

You are not alone and I wish you much strength to go through all these struggles. Try to get more sleep and sweat it out. I find that a really good way to get my spirits back in times I'm feeling low.

The one special important someone has being in your life for the longest period and through the darkest hour. No matter what wrong has that person done, there is never a moment that you would be angry at one another for long. There may be a short duration that you may not be speaking with that person over some argument but there will never be a moment that you will not forgive each other's mistake.

Suddenly that one special person whom you love dearly will soon to be gone...for the first time ever in your life. The sudden emptiness...out of the blue...the sinking feeling that disturbs your stomach feels worse than being deserted by the whole world.

It feels bad enough for trying to build a castle in the air...a task almost near impossible, like locating Laputa without knowing the spell...now it felt even worse. I have chosen a dream rather than a solution. If only I am to be given a wish on Monday...

How funny it is to read blogs of people who you know as a friend but not a close one. It is like if you know that person but not too well and when you are sitting next to each other, there will be an awkward moment and a basic conversation.

I know her but we are just friends who only smile to each other when we see one another down the corridor. Today I read some of her blogs and found that she was at a crossroad and recently had a breakup. We are not close and I think it will be pretty awkward for me to tell her these...so I'm just going to write it here and perhaps, someday...she or other people who are facing the same situation, can be digitally reached. (This is the part where I love technology and literacy -- oh..I do hope to learn more words on my own...so that the next time when somebody writes in Mandarin, I can at least make out some sensible statements)

Here goes:

1.
It gets really confusing altogether when you have just graduated and your future lies in front of you. You are cautious not to take the wrong path because it might just be the one that makes you wasted your years and thought it is the right path but you have no idea at all what path is right and what path is not. It's not like you can chose between going into the corporate world or into creating a brand of your own...you do not know what to chose even; at times, because you are a science graduate who wanted to survive doing science and build a castle out of imaginations -- and getting paid for that. Then again, it is very frustrating when situations forced you into a corner and take choices out of your hand. It is true that not everyone end up with a job that they initially planned but that would be really ideal, I know.

I guess it was that transition period which people (should I say: like us?) would face and it will take a year for the indecisive ones or those who was robbed out of their choices to actually adapt to the new environment - whether they like it or not. I myself is still trying to adapt to the new environment. Maybe I am slow, so to speak, that I felt really comfortable previously before the leap and now that after the leap, I kinda have doubts if the leap was the right step to take.

I have leaped into an world which I thought I wanted but an environment that can only be described as kiasu (uber kiasu). Then again, after much re-thinking...I supposed, yes, that is the leap that I wanted. Even after today, I am telling myself that I am not backing down because of all those kiasu-ness around me. At times, I felt like a fool at the center stage; lost of an aim/direction and what this fool does was being fooled and acting like a fool. But, no. I will not back down and there is only one way to exit from all the kiasu-ness: that is to climb up above and walk on the kiasu's head. Oh well, I guess the consolation is that not everyone in that world is kiasu. Some are really nice people :)

I like the way she puts it: a girl with her heart in pieces. Don't we all once have our heart in pieces? I supposed this is one miraculous thing about human heart, they end up in pieces but with appropriate amount of Time and the correct dose of Love, the pieces can actually be sealed back like a brand new one :) Sometimes, when something are not meant to be, then it is not meant to be. She understands that part...probably executing what she understands is a little difficult.

Yea, I supposed execution is always the pain. When your brain tells you the logical thing to do, your heart will just tell you otherwise. Then again, what is not meant to be; is not meant to be :) Yesterday, there were two girls who called into the radio station to shout to the world of their break up. One of them said that it was pretty abrupt and it was due to their incompatibility while another girl shared that it was because of a third party. Well, the DJ should have told them, "What is not meant to be, is not meant to be and letting go is also an expression of Love."

The weirdness of turning 25

The weirdness of turning 25...

For once, your body is not the same anymore. Like, yes, duh...you can't adjust to the day as easily as you would when you are 15. At 15, I can sleep till 7pm and wake up and sleep again at 3am and still wake up at 7am only to sleep again at 10am.
Now? Time is so limited that you are desperate to have 35 hours a day if possible.

When I was 20, I eat and drink all that I want and still stay the same...now? I don't eat as much ice cream or chocolates any more. I get sick of them very easily and besides, I gain as much as I eat.

21 was the official -of.age- period and I have a few friends who got married young and divorced few years after. Some get pregnant and abortion follows thereafter. Well, at 25, most of them started to get married, then pregnant and have kids (probably divorcement would come later...or hopefully not). They start a family and learn parenting. I don't know but that is very new to me...almost alienating...

You don't worry much about finances when you are younger but at 25? I start to hate myself for not working hard enough, not earning as much and not achieving high enough. the digits remain the same and the dream remains a dream and heck, nowadays my doubt has come back to haunt.

At 25, the body shows signs of growing...older...the mind started to race because I am 25 and yet feels like a 20...and have an achievement of an 18. OH THE HORROR...wtf... =__+;

At 18, I was fresh and hopeless...at 21, I was still naive and young...at 22/23, I was older but not wiser and I've got a reflection of life. A reflection that I thought I could have avoided should I was wiser and more determined. 23 has been a lesson...it was a beautiful coincident...one which I still do not know if it's much of a regret or if it's much of a discovery period...but for sure, it was a consequence of my own actions and to my own accord (to a friend who has just turned 23...I hope your 23 would be one which you didn't go through the way I went through mine...learn from it and make possible for amendments if you think it shouldn't be the way it is now..)

Through all the stumbles and self-discovery...I guess the consolation of turning 25 would be myself writing a new chapter of life...a better chapter because for once .( ___________ ). am not filling in that blanks. I know you are reading this prolly at a later time but somehow yea, I just know you will read this part and smile because you know you fills up that blank.

I was sleeping a while ago but suddenly woke up and even though I felt like sleeping again...I dragged myself up for a cup of water. Thirst and a miss in the heart had got me up. I have recently been in an environment which had trapped me in my thoughts again. I have been pondering about what I should do and what I was about to do for quite some time previously and I thought I am through with that but recently, the same set of questions and doubts haunt me again. Am I really doing what I thought was right by walking the path which I had chosen? Is that really what I wanted? Am I sure that this is a learning curve and a stairway to what I aimed for instead of wasting my time trying to build a castle in the air? It was supposed to be inspiring to listen to the presentation by SH when she said, Look for opportunities in your mistakes..but it didn't quite do the trick today. It's enjoyable doing what I'm doing now...but it could be better.

Yes. It will be better.

mother knows best

Recently, I had a discussion with this newly acquainted friend of mine and I totally disagree with what we discussed on. Well, I usually adopt an ignorant-don't-bother-much-less with people with a mindset like his (moreover, we are newly acquainted) and so, I let him dwell in his own world after stating my favourite line, "Eventhough I agree to a certain extent of your points but I still beg to differ as individuals; we both have different opinions."

It begun with the discussion on his experience as an art facilitator in A. He shared with me that A uses a method which allows young children to display their thoughts and inner emotions on paper. Instead of suppressing a child's creativity by giving them a set of defined instructions on how to produce a so-called good art, A incorporated the senses of hearing, smelling, sight and touch to enable a child to express him/herself through drawing and coloring.

He told me that any child below the age of 8 should not be forced to imagine or force-feed them with creativity. This will later suppresses the child's power of innovation and indirectly contribute to their failure in achieving a high EQ.

He even said that parents go to A to get their children 'diagnosed' (so to say; it meant that teachers in A would be trained to tell what's the nature of their child through his/her artwork--just like a code decipherer) and the teachers are able to give accurate description of the child's in born nature -- thanks to the method used by A, of course.

He is obviously very proud of A since he went on and on trashing (that is a very lousy business ethic and super uber lousy personality of a person) every other art center as places that stunt (and possibly damage the child for life) the creativity of the child which later on leads to his/her inability to develop/mature mentally. He went to the extent of alleging that these centers have indirectly contributed to the mass churning of Yes-Malaysians (Malaysians who only accept what is given and never question or reason with the higher authority for the fear of consequences).

I was almost on the verge of correcting his thoughts. Well, I do not deny the fact that most Malaysians have that mindset but then again, hey, we have Jimmy Choo, P. Ramlee, Lat, Lim Kok Wing, Loh Kin Sun...and the list goes on. I mean, c'mon, I just have to disagree with his shallow mindset! Early child development is important of course, but then again, an individual grows up and eventually picks up his/her direction and unique characteristics. Art centers or whichsoever early children development may play a role but they are not the ultimate factor that affects the progress of a child in his/her younger years!

He went on to say how grateful parents are to A because A managed to inform them of the character of their children and some parents even ask them for their recommendations in selecting suitable reading materials for them.

Good gracious, centers are not supposed to be the ones that tell the parents on what their children are like! Mothers, they carry the baby in them for the whole 9 months DO NOT need anyone to tell them about their child/ren. She is the one who is supposed to know their children best -- at least before they reach teenagehood and adopt an identity of their own. Then again, a mother will always know best. They are supposed to and if they are unable to, then it is just too bad. It is not a shame but it is just too bad.

What a laughable statement to hear from someone who seemingly knows a lot about children psychology; what he told me made me thought that he is so immersed in his own subject of expertise that he failed to realize other matters. Parents spend more time with their younger children than any art teachers (who probably only come in contact with the child for 1-2 hours, twice a week at maximum). So, who are they to tell the parents if the parents themselves do not even understand their own children? I can only comment that these parents are being insensitive...that's all. Well, everyone is flawed -- and so is he!
(if he stereotypes most Malaysians as being not creative...then what is he? He has children who scored As using the center's method doesn't significantly mean anything--My friends and I scored As during our younger years as well and we did not even attend any mental development related sessions nor was being fed with modified milk powder when we were babies. Having a child studying in an oversea university doesn't at all mean the child is better off due to his guiding method which was based on that of the center, it simply means he can afford to provide them with a better education option! I am a self-taught in art and I am able to draw and design without being 'guided' by methods and still, I am able to reason on my choice of colors...maybe sometimes I do get creative...well...that is debatable so let's not get there..haha...because that's also a reason on why I did not venture into the creative line...geez...A is not any more superior just because parents thought it helps in developing their children' mind)

An artwork, yes, is able to disclose a certain information on a person but NOT entirely. You will need dual-communication and observations to be able to learn more about a person (child/adult). A human is so complex that artwork is just a limited source of information.

Now, to think again, I shouldn't be wasting my time to rant about his shallowness. It's just not worth it.

And by the way...I love my current job...so no thank you for the offer. Those people may hold high positions with good salaries...but that's them.

All the 'notes' on the wall is a result of total frustrations of MO and nurses (to be), i guess. And they are all very decent..suprisingly. Still, don't they have a better place to vent instead of vandalising the wall of the library?

Lol..but it's entertaining for a brain that was overwhelmed by forensic science..a book that makes dexter seems like just another brainless csi episode..
Don't try asking me what i read though. I forgot and the only word that i remember reading was cannabinol and it's active compound THC..that's about it but really it's not of my concern. So why bother? I should be concerned with toxicity and how to overcome growing attachment with monkey, my active mouse that is always trying to act cute.
